“Once a Mejica, Always a Mejica,” reads the motto for Grupo Folklórico Los Mejicas. It’s an expression that reflects the incessant process of forging of social bonds across generations by all who have participated in Los Mejicas over the past 50 years. Los Mejicas has been an invaluable social entity that has allowed participants to develop close ties with members of their own cohort and as well as with members from previous generations. In fact, Los Mejicas has established an impressive legacy of familial participation in the dance troupe. Symbolically and literally, Los Mejicas functions as a family where members cultivate respect and appreciation for one another and work collaboratively to accomplish their mission.
